Zola "June" Cheney Obituary

Zola June (Hites) Cheney passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024.  She was 96 years old and lived her life to its fullest.  She was a warm, genuine, and authentic woman who loved everyone, and everything, including all of God’s creatures, great and small.
She was born on June 14, 1928, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Clifford Edwin Hites and Zola Iona Goforth.  She was the youngest of four children, Clifford, Bonnie Mae, and Louanna all of whom preceded her in death.
When she was a small girl, her family moved to Phoenix Arizona and then, as a young woman to San Diego, California, where she met her sweetheart and soon to be husband, Joseph Glen Cheney, who was a sailor in the US Navy and stationed in San Diego.  Following a short courtship, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 24, 1946.  In their early married years, they lived in Emmett, Pocatello, and Boise, Idaho.  Zola June loved being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great-grandmother.  Family was everything to her.  Her heart was big enough to wrap all around her, family, friends, and strangers in the arms of her love.  She was curious and desirous to learn about her children and grandchildren, their lives, hopes, and dreams.  She loved fully and cared deeply. Her love for music, nature and life’s beauties shined brightly through her eyes.  All who came to know her felt the love of God through her.  She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and carried a deep and lasting testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ which she never failed to share to her last days.
She is survived by her five children. Nancy (Galan) Merrill, Bonnie (Norm) Jensen, Joe (Diane) Cheney, Tom (Tina) Cheney, and Stanley Cheney, 18 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren (and 3 on the way).
Zola June has left a legacy that has and will continue to bless the lives of her posterity and the lives of countless others in the years to come.  Oh, how she is loved and will be missed.  God be thanked for the life of Zola June (Hites) Cheney.
