William "Bill" Jones Obituary

On January 3rd, 2024, we unexpectedly lost the greatest husband, dad, "papa", brother, son, uncle and friend, due to the aftermath of a rare stroke in the early hours of New Year's Day. In his 60 years, he accomplished so much, and brought love and light to those around him. While his absence leaves a hole, his love lives on in the hearts of all those who cherished him dearly.
William Jeremy Jones was born in Shakopee, Minnesota to Stephen Lancaster Jones and Mary Lou Jane Jones on December 28th, 1963. “Little Billy” was the fourth of their five beautiful children. A happy-go-lucky boy, he was fortunate to survive the shenanigans of his two older brothers. Billy grew up loving hockey. When most of the family moved to Idaho in 1975, he continued in the sport with his athletic talents.
Bill became known as "Wild Bill Jones" among his friends, due to his fun-loving and sometimes reckless nature. It was during this phase of his life that his love for Laree first sparked, at just 15 years old. The two married in 1984 and began building a life together as they welcomed their first son into the world. Their trio quickly grew to a family of nine over the next ten years. It was his family that Bill adored and worked his butt off to support. In their near 40 years of marriage, Bill and Laree truly built the dreams they treasured.
Bill was a handyman and jack of all trades. He worked in construction and concrete alongside his dad and brothers for many years. He was a logger, hunting guide, and rodeo judge. Bill could shoe a horse and run equipment. He could weld or paint anything. He did auto body work, leatherwork, and drew house plans by hand. He was a meticulous craftsman. Most knew him as a road boss and supervisor—a position he acquired in the 24 years he worked for Boise County. Bill took much pride in becoming a structural drafter for his son’s company in his last years. But when he was elevated from “Bill” to “Papa”, he especially loved being the “best fixer” for his kids and grandkids. If something was broken, Papa could fix it.
Bill Jones was a wonderful, self-sacrificing man with so much love to give. He was known in the community for being a friendly, playful soul who had an infectious laugh. A social butterfly and always willing to lend a listening ear, he made friends easily. Bill was married to his best friend. He and Laree loved dancing and singing together, especially with their friends at local parties. He was at every sporting event for his kids through the years, his hockey-style cheering sometimes landing him in hot water. More than anything, Bill had a strong, personal relationship with God and raised his children to seek the same. We were all better just knowing him.
We are saddened by the sudden loss of such a wonderful family man and friend. Bill is survived by his loving wife Laree; seven children and their spouses, Kaleb and Bailee Jones, Luke and Kendra Jones, Jed Jones and Sammy, Lacey and Matt Nauman, Chad and Tayler Jones, Chancey and Garrett Rogers, and Lance and Sierra Jones; two older brothers, Tom Jones (Val) and Dan Jones; and two sisters Janet Jones and Mary Kay Youren. He is also survived by his father-in-law Doug Robeson, 23 beautiful grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews—all of which he loved dearly.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, devotion to family, hard work, and integrity for his children and grandchildren to aspire to. His spirit will live on through them. May we all love the way he loved: by sacrificing our own needs for those we care about and never ceasing.
We thank you for your continued love and prayers for Laree, as she navigates through these difficult times. In lieu of a funeral, a wake will be held in Bill's honor.
