William A. Overton, Jr., a twenty-year resident of Emmett, Idaho, passed away March 9, 2023, at the Boise VA Hospital, surrounded by family, following a brief illness.
He was born on September 30, 1946, in San Diego, Ca., to William Sr. and Margaret. Bill’s childhood took him around the U.S as his father was a career Naval Officer. Bill finally settled in Sunnyvale, California, where he completed high school and went on to the University of California, Berkely. There he earned his BS in Industrial Engineering and his MBA in Businessand Industrial Engineering. Bill graduated with honors.
He served his country in the Army. He commanded a stockade, as military police, with over 500 prisoners and a guard platoon of over 80 soldiers. Bill took his duty seriously and led with integrity, honor, and compassion.
Bill met the love of his life, Victoria, in 1975. They married in 1976. They lived in San Jose, Ca.; Manilla, Philippines; Tucson, Az.; Malacca, Malaysia and finally settled in Emmett, Id., to be close to their grandchildren. Bill’s ability to develop and manage a company was unsurpassed. This ability made him a hot commodity and took him all over the world for work. He retired at 46 years old and settled down to write four books. Although not yet published, he completed his goal to write.
Bill was an amazing storyteller, historian and artist. He collected stamps, built and painted battleships and fighter planes. He enjoyed his horses, dogs, cats and of course chickens. In the last 20 years of his life, here in Emmett, he developed a strong bond and friendship with Eric and Heather Loy, who would have an amazing impact on him and his life. He enjoyed all of his neighbors and how helpful they were. Bill would talk to anyone who would listen and at times too much. If you knew Bill you knew of his gift for gab, love for country, family, and his incredible mind.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Victoria; two children, Marty and Gina; son-in-law, Keith; four grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, Jesse, and Rachel; two great grandchildren, Ellie and Jackson; his sister, Peggy; sister-in-law, Susann; brother-in-law, John; nieces, Sarah and Christina; and his twin great niece and nephew, Harper and Hudson.
