Warren Yunker Obituary

Warren Yunker passed away at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise, Idaho on August 8, 2022.  He was born September 27, 1935 in Jerome, Idaho as the youngest of six children to Frederick and Hilda Yunker.

Warren attended schools in Jerome before the family moved to Emmett, Idaho.  He enlisted in the army in 1953 and attended Airborne training at Fort Benning, Georgia.  He was transferred to Reserve Army Status in 1956.  In 1954 while on leave from the army, a friend set him up on a blind date where he met Pauline Moyer.  They were married in Winnemucca, Nevada on March 26, 1956.  The couple moved to Roseburg, Oregon briefly before returning to Emmett, where Warren began a career at the Boise Cascade Sawmill.  In 1957, they welcomed a daughter, Julie, 1960 a son, Jeff, and in 1964 another son, Jim. They moved to an acreage on Plaza Road in Emmett in 1966 where they resided until 2020.

Warren was not afraid to take on any mechanical or structural needs at the sawmill or at home.  He built everything from barns to his grandchildren’s playground set and always seemed to be on call on weekends for the mill to repair any urgent break down.  Warren retired in 1997 and was able to fulfil his dream of hitting the road with Pauline and their 5th wheel to enjoy a vacation in Alaska.

Warren is survived by his wife, Pauline, of 66 years; daughter, Julie (Joe) Shirts; sons, Jeff and Jim Yunker; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Wendy Yunker, and his grandson, Jonny Shirts.

The family would like to thank the Veterans Home for their care of Warren during his struggle with Parkinson’s disease and the effects of a stroke.

Service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 with viewing at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with graveside services to follow at the Emmett Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
