Victor Gordon Jones passed away on April 14, 2022 at the age of 86 after a valiant fight against pneumonia and blood clots, brought on by Covid, and a broken femur. At the time of his death, he was in remission from lymphoma, which he had battled for 8 years. Victor was born in Malad, Idaho on March 27, 1936 to Victor Richard Jones and Jane T. Jones. He was the third of six children, with only he and his youngest sister Karen living past young childhood.
Victor attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. He lived most of his life in Idaho, but also lived in Alaska, Utah, Virginia, and California while serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1964 in the Construction Engineer Unit. This is where he developed skills which he later used in his career as a Civil Engineer for the U.S. Forest Service. Victor retired in 1991 from the U.S.F.S. after 32 years of service.
Victor had lived in his present home in Emmett, Idaho since January 1993. He and his wife, Glenda Sharon (Sherry) Mink were married on April 29, 1995. Victor loved the outdoors, hunting, taking care of trees, going on hikes with Sherry, reading, and classic cars. He shot his last deer this past fall at 85 years young! Victor was a true patriot and loved his country dearly. He was able to go on a dream vacation to Australia over 20 years ago that he still talked about just before his passing.
Victor was intelligent, kind, funny, hard-working, and generous. When asked the question, for his posterity, “How would you like to be remembered?” His response was, “I would like to be remembered as caring, honest, trust-worthy, and hard-working.” He definitely accomplished that and more.
Victor - husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother - will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; sister, Karen Jones; son, John Jones; daughters, Kelly Jones, Teresa Norton (Kent); son, Jason Jone; bonus-daughters, Sherry Fernandez (Ken), Gigi Davis (Brent), Jamie Metz (Roger), Billie-Jo Hess (Keith); bonus-son, Charlie Stirling (Jenn Lemons); grandsons, Bryce & Tyler Norton, Victor & Howard Jones, and many loved bonus grandchildren and bonus-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and two children, Vickie Jones (mother Ramona Adalid) and Travis Jones (mother Opal McHan).
The family would like to thank The Cottages Assisted Living in Emmett, especially Karen Mendoza and her team, and Bluebird Hospice for the amazing care and love shown to Victor during his last days.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints (980 W. Central Rd.). A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m., before the funeral at the same location. Interment will follow at the Sweet-Montour Cemetery, 6391 Sweet Ola Highway, Sweet Idaho. Services are in the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel of Emmett.
