Travis Dane Madsen, 54, of Sweet, Idaho passed away peacefully on June 20, 2022 after a prolonged battle with multiple organ failure. He was born to Merlin Madsen and Patricia Eads July 6, 1967 in Cedar City, Utah, Travis relocated with his family for several years until they finally settled in Rexburg, Idaho.
Travis graduated from Madison High School in 1985 and attended Ricks College. He then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Brussels, Belgium mission from 1987 to 1989. Almost immediately following the completion of his service, Travis met and fell in love with Shawna Anne Jensen. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple in July 1989 and blessed with four daughters.
Travis’s life was characterized by a desire to serve and give deeply of himself. He enlisted in the National guard for a year, and then began working as a therapeutic technician with juvenile correction centers. After several years working with state youth centers, Travis established his own therapeutic treatment center in Sweet, Idaho. Working with various youth populations and issues ranging from drug and alcohol addiction to behavioral disorders for over 20 years, Travis was devoted to the idea that anybody can change their life and rewrite their story. Although he had no sons of his own, many of those young men came to feel like family and retained lifelong friendships. One such young man, Jimmie Crandall, has been like a son to the Madsen’s ever since he joined the program in its first year.
Travis’s hobbies include performing home renovations and updates, whether on his beloved cabin, or any neighbor’s home in need. He was a consummate creator and cherished the opportunities he had to craft props for Christmas nativities, build beautiful displays for weddings, or draw sketches for anniversaries and celebrations. With an eye for presentation and discerning taste, he thrilled in creating gourmet meals for his loved ones. He is remembered with much love and fondness by any neighbor or friend who knew of his generous heart.
Travis is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lucy Hansen, and his stepfather, Rex Eads. He is survived by his wife, Shawna Madsen; his children, Megan Walker (Cory), Taylor Hansen (David), Monica McGuire (Garrit), and Sydney Tarran (Myles), Jimmie Crandall (Audra); his father, Merlin Madsen (Diane) and his mother, Patricia Eads; his siblings, Jennifer Dustin (Todd) Hans Madsen (Mindy), and Soren Madsen (Pili), and 16 grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Saint Luke’s hospice, especially Deanna, for the tender and professional care that was given to Travis in his final days.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 11 a.m. at the Sweet LDS Church (8775 Sweet Ola Hwy Sweet, Idaho 84670). There will be a viewing on Friday, June 24 from 6:00-8:00 at the Potter Funeral Chapel (228 E. Main Street Emmett, Idaho 83617).
