Steve Alley Obituary

Steve Sterling Alley was born in Grimes Pass, Garden Valley, Idaho, on June 15, 1941 to Sterling Alley and Madelyn Fackrell.  He was the oldest of 6 children; Jan Youren, Linda Miller, Karen Alley, Monte Alley and Melea Hileman.  He married Jo Ann Morrison in 1960, and they had two children, Jerry and Judy Alley.  They later divorced.
Highlights of Steve’s life are cattle drives with Harry and Jim Youren and helping his dad run Deadwood Outfitters.  He worked in the woods as a timber feller by day and was farming ranch hand by night.  After retiring from logging, he worked for Boise County Road Department and was the owner of Alley Fuels, Keylock & Delivery where he was often seen delivering fuel around Boise County with his grandkids and dogs.
Steve loved team roping and spent his summer nights teaching the kids team roping at the arena.  He put aside his love for roping to take Jerry and Judy to rodeos throughout their high school years.  He was frequently seen at Junior rodeos as a pick-up man or volunteering for anywhere help was needed.
His love of the outdoors was vast; packing horses into summer fishing camp, fall elk hunting camp to winter snowmobiling and cougar hunting.  If ever Steve was on top of a horse, he was happy.
While helping Ronnie Legg with cows in High Valley he met Victoria Johnson who became a great friend.  He was a daily visitor to Destiny’s Barber Shop and the Longhorn for a coke with Tammy Jo and Katina where the stories and memories flowed.  Another frequent stop was the radio station to see Sandra.
Steve had four grandchildren: Randy Alley, Jeffrey Severance, Sammy Nelson and Jordan Alley and two great grandchildren: Joey Alley and Doc Alley; however, to all, he was known as Grandpa or Uncle Steve.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sterling and Madelyn Alley; sister, Karen Alley, and nephews, Jim Tucker, Hoss (Clint) Alley and Milt Alley.
We cannot sum up Steve Alley in a few paragraphs, so we invite everyone to a celebration of his life.  Please join us for a potluck and team roping at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Youren’s arena to share our fondest memories.
Arrangements are in the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel.
