Sharon Berton Obituary

Sharon Lee Berton, age 74, of Emmett, Idaho, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.  Sharon was born on August 26, 1945, in McCloud, California, to Major and Anita Regnani.

Mt. Shasta, California, was her home for most of her life.  Sharon and her brother, Steve, grew up and attended school there, even through college.  Sharon lived on the same street as her Aunt Adele and they were very close.  Most of her family lived in Mt. Shasta and she enjoyed growing up alongside her cousins.  Sharon always considered Mt. Shasta her home and this is where she will be laid to rest.

Sharon met Butch in Jackson, California, and they married on January 29, 1978.  They recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary.  They lived in Jackson for 7 years and then moved to the Bay Area in California remaining there for 24 years until moving to Emmett, Idaho, in 2009.  They enjoyed going to the movies and eating lots of popcorn while there.  They also enjoyed fishing together and Sharon even convinced Butch to go on a cruise since fishing on a boat was fun!  They had a wonderful time on that vacation, as well as other trips they took.

Sharon has one child, Shelly, who currently lives in Antioch, California, with her husband, Bob, and children, Nicholas and Caitlin.  Sharon loved being a grandmother and let those two get away with everything!  Sharon, and her mother, “Nita”, would spend many days each week with the kids and enjoyed every minute of it.  Sharon held a special place in her heart for Mike (her stepson) and his wife, Nancy, and her grandson, Dillon.

An avid book reader, Sharon would go through many books per month.  There were piles upon piles of books by her bedside!  She also liked to watercolor paint, collect chicken knick-knacks, and plant flowers.  Sharon had a beautiful garden in Jackson that would always get complimented.  She was also a talented cook and could turn deer meat into something that Shelly would eat!

Sharon was an animal lover and collector of animals.  She fed every stray cat in the neighborhood within a two-mile radius.  If you notice in the photo of her younger self, she’s holding a cat!  Sharon and Butch even had uncommon critters.  Butch returned from working in Oregon and surprised Sharon with a ferret, whom they named, Precious.  And she was precious.  They also adopted a crow, whom they named, Lucky, who was found in a nearby park.  Butch brought the fledging home as he feared that one of Sharon’s hundred cats would eat him.  Lucky thrived and lived with them for over five years!  Many dogs have known the love of Sharon.  Samantha is the dog in the picture with Sharon.  Butch found a group of ten, starving puppies at a work site and brought them home.  Sharon and Butch decided to keep Samantha and found homes for the other nine.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Butch; child, Shelly (and her husband Bob); grandchildren, Nicholas, Caitlin, and Dillon; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.  Loving, honorable mention goes to her horses, Comanche and Blaze, and dog, Molly.
