Rosemary Drake Obituary

Rosemary Drake, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away of natural causes on July 30, 2022.

Rosemary was born on August 19, 1930, in Mullen, Nebraska to William and Bonnie Figgat.  She was the second of four children.  She lived in Mullen until 1941 when the family moved to Meridian, Idaho.  She graduated from Meridian High School in 1949.

On December 21, 1949, Rosemary married Orval Drake. She was a homemaker and an Air Force wife, stationed in Anchorage, Alaska and Indianapolis, Indiana. Eventually Rosemary and Orval moved back to the Treasure Valley: farming in Meridian, Eagle and Emmett.

Farming life for Rosemary consisted of raising Simmental Cattle and raising hay.  In a sense, this was her hobby as well as her extended hobbies: gardening (making Christmas canned goods), raising goats (making cheese), and crafts (making wreaths and carving/painting gourds).  Rosemary used her gardening skills and transformed them into crafts that she sold at Christmas Bazaars.

Rosemary spent her days occupied hourly, daily, and weekly not being bored with life. There was just too much to do and little time to do it in. But she took the time to have family get-togethers during the holidays and birthday celebrations. Her other pastime was her membership at the Heritage Christian Church in Emmett, where she volunteered her time during the week, or on Sundays.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Drake; her parents, William and Bonnie Figgat; her older sister, Margaret Moulton; younger brother, William Figgat, Jr. and her grandson, Benny Tully.  She is survived by her younger sister, Signa Treat of Seattle, WA; children, Kim Drake of Boise, ID, Mike Drake of Ontario, OR, and Scott (Martha) Drake of Kuna, ID; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held at Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, Idaho on Friday, Aug 12th at 11:00 A.M.  Rosemary's urn will be laid to rest next to Orval at the Meridian Cemetery privately at a later date.
