Captain's Log | Stardate 4523.3
Captain Rodney R. Ford was beamed aboard planet Earth on September 26, 1971 just minutes ahead of his twin brother, Lieutenant Commander Robert R. Ford. Upon their arrival on Earth, the twins quickly established relationships with the intelligent life found in the Treasure Valley sector of the Idaho quadrant. As a Junior Officer, Rodney found pleasure cleaning the feline feculence out of the backyard sandbox and constructing great civilizations from the soil for his extensive Hot Wheels collection. He also spent many hours attempting to attract Linda Carter to his quarters playing an elaborate game of tag with his brother and cousins, David and Daniel.
After a highly illogical younger sister, Rhonda R. Ford was sent to join the Ford fleet, the two older twins reveled in the process of putting sodium chloride in her beverages, singing taunting songs of her guilt, and then bribing her with sweets to prevent her from notifying security personnel.
Upon reaching the age of adulthood for Earth males, Rodney met a local commodities trader while earning wages at the Albertsons market and established his own family unit by marrying Daisy Dederick in 1998. Rodney and Daisy further elevated the Ford tribe with the arrival of their beloved daughters Rebeca and Olivia.
When not preparing for the Kobayashi Maru, days aboard the SS Forderprise were often spent sitting beside his prized 1966 Ford Mustang “Gracie” among other car aficionados or subjecting friends and family to his unique “film” preferences (specifically Citizen Kane, the most recent 007 adventure, or in particularly painful moments, his favorite silent films - a place where no man should have gone before.)
Rodney also had a special place in his heart for right-wing political non-fiction (resistance to his political sentiments were futile), listening to The Shadow radio transmissions, and eating a local delicacy referred to as “finger steaks” (although he often forgot to bring his carryall containing provincial currency when it came time for payment.)
Early in the morning on December 31st, Rodney was beamed back to the Space Dock after completing his mission on Earth. He will be greatly missed by those he left behind. Upon his departure, he cited his love for his daughters, Beca and Liv, his siblings Robert and Rhonda, his aunt Susan Wilder, and many, many friends and family. Live long and prosper.
Rodney was preceded in his return to the stars by his father, Roger R. Ford, grandparents Bob & Edna Ford, Alma Claar, and great aunts Mary and Edna Burt.
A celebration of Rodney's life will be held at Trinity Evangelical Church in Boise on Saturday, January 14th at 5:00pm. All who loved and cared for Rodney are welcome to attend. We also encourage everyone to drive their classic or show cars to the service.
