Richard "Rick" May Obituary

Richard (Rick) Heath May, age 57 passed away in Boise, Idaho on October 5, 2024. Rick was born on February 17, 1967. He grew up in West Linn, Oregon with his mother Jeanne Carroll and his younger sister Marsha. He met his life-long best friend Robert Stark (aka: Bootsie) in middle school. Rick moved to Sheridan, Oregon to live with his father Bob May and stepmom Lana in his junior year of high school. During his school years, Rick enjoyed playing all kinds of sports, but his favorite pastime throughout the years was watching the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Bears. In 1991, Rick graduated from OSU in Corvallis, Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. His career started at a homeless shelter for women and children.
Rick and Jane Nimrod were in a 13-year courtship and married in 1998.  Rick and Jane moved to Boise, Idaho where he worked in the mortgage industry for 28 years. His sociology background served him well as branch manager for the remainder of his career. Rick had a talent for problem-solving and making his staff feel valued.
Rick welcomed two sons into the world, Heath & Hunter, who were the source of joy in his life. Rick cherished listening to his oldest son Heath play in music performances and having long discussions about economics and the housing market. Rick coached Hunter’s flag football team for four seasons in the Star Parks and Rec program resulting in four league championships. Rick and Hunter shared a strong passion for football which bonded them for many years.
For 10 years Rick’s Grandma (Hot Dot) Mulvey lived in their home. He loved preparing seafood fests with Hot Dot and teaching his sons how to crack crab and eat steamer clams.
Rick had a passion for golf and held bragging rights for not one, but two Hole-in-Ones during his career.  He served as a board member at the Gem County Golf Course where he began one of his favorite tournaments, the Three Stick Tourney. He loved his group of golf buddies and looked forward to Wednesday golf matches.
Rick had a lot of fun hobbies, one of which was attending concerts. The Foo Fighters and Ships & Dip cruises with the Barenaked Ladies were among his favorites. He loved making people laugh and was the life of the party. We will carry his memory in our hearts forever.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Robert May; his stepmother, Lana May; his grandparents Dorothy & John Mulvey, Dean & Nonie May and Alice & Darb Ellis as well as his three beloved dogs Butkus, Homer and Frank.
He is survived by his wife, Jane May; his sons Heath and Hunter May; his mother, Jeanne Carroll; his sister, Marsha Lemay; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
