Richard Bonestell Kirby, fondly known as "Spunky", peacefully passed away on March 13, 2025, in Boise, Idaho, at the age of 65. His final moments were spent surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Born on August 4, 1959, in San Mateo, California, Richard was the cherished son of Alvin and Sharon Kirby and the beloved older brother of Donald Kirby.
Richard's professional journey began in March 1985 when he joined Advanced Precision Machining, Inc. Here, he formed lasting bonds with his boss, mentor, and friend, Nick Brackus, along with many lifelong friends. Known for his ability to tackle complex and detailed parts, Richard quickly became the go-to expert for fast-turn projects. His career flourished with the introduction of Mori Seiki and Arura CAM, the latter evolving into Gibbs CAM, which Richard continued to use throughout his life. His dedication to his craft was evident in his interactions with government inspectors and his passion for the challenges that machining presented.
Before making Idaho his home, Richard worked at InterOcean, where he spent nine memorable months in Africa—a period he treasured deeply. After his tenure at InterOcean, he relocated to Idaho, taking a year off before joining Foldsi. Richard retired in August 2023, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Outside of his professional life, Richard was a devoted husband to his wife, Sally Jones. Their commitment was a testament to love and partnership, and together they created a blended family that brought Richard immense joy and fulfillment. He was a proud father of his two children, Crystal Bringino and Michael Kirby. Additionally, Richard embraced his role as a loving stepfather to Traci Rhoads, Sean Dayton, and Brenden Jones. His family expanded further with seven cherished grandchildren: Anthony Avery, Austin Rhoads, Ariana Bringino, Emma Rhoads, Atlas Dayton, Gianna Bringino and River Jones. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he took great delight in their achievements and the joy they brought into his life. The family grew further with four precious great-grandchildren, who added another layer of happiness and pride to Richard's life.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Sharon Kirby, as well as his beloved dog, Rex.
Richard's legacy of love, dedication, and friendship will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
A graveside service to honor Richard's life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Emmett Cemetery, 1205 N. Washington Ave, Emmett, Idaho.
