Roy Johnson Despain, 72, passed peacefully from this life into the next on April 25th at 7:25 p.m., surrounded by family at his home in Emmett, Idaho.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Deanne (Landes); siblings, Ival, Larry, Frank, Dean, Mike, Ron and Julia; children, Brenda (Miller), Brandon, Darrick, Melissa (Klassen), Travis, Ethan, and Spencer; with their spouses and 20 grandchildren.
Born and raised in Lovell, Wyoming on November 6th, 1946 to Joseph and Trilma Despain; Roy grew up in a family of ten children milking cows, fishing, hunting, riding horses and especially tending to a large garden with his Mother. He became a State Championship wrestler, earning the Mower award given to one wrestler in the State of Wyoming and a scholarship to the University of Wyoming. Little did he know that a young girl, whom he fought with his brother over walking to school with, would re-enter his life when he took a job at a cannery.. After completing one year at the University of Wyoming, Roy was sealed for time and all eternity to the love of his life, Deanne Landes on July 14, 1967 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Roy went on to serve in the United States Air Force stationed in Great Falls Montana being awarded five years service under fours years. He completed his Bachelor degree in microbiology at BYU, while he and Deanne were blessed with four children. Three more children would follow, bringing the total to seven, as Roy built his well respected career in microbiology at companies such as Abbott Laboratories, Miles Laboratories, and ADM. He was admired for his expertise and contributions in his field. Roy served faithfully in countless church callings and was always gave relief to those in need. He gave love and was loved by his family, friends and associates.
Roy was a handyman extraordinaire. He fixed cars, built tree houses, painted roadshow backdrops, poured concrete and retrieved precious earrings from a sink drain. If it was broken, he could fix it and if you had an idea he could make it come to life.
