Phyllis Hanby Obituary

 Phyllis Hanby (90) of Meridian, passed away on June 21, 2022. Phyllis was born on April 12,1932 to Harry and Vivian Jones in Boise, Idaho and later moved to Emmett, Idaho. Phyllis attended school in Emmett, graduating from Emmett High School in 1951.  During high school, Phyllis enjoyed working at the Emmett drive-in close to the family farm. Phyllis collected the money and two of her brothers Jack & Frank washed the car’s windshields. Phyllis enjoyed all her school friends and continued helping organize school reunions. After graduation, Phyllis married Owen "Dutch" Darnell and together they had four sons and two daughters; Pennee, Danny, Luane, Kirk, Greg and Lonnie.

 Phyllis worked for several local businesses in Emmett including Radke Furniture for 12 years. Then started her career as a Realtor at Century 21 where she later got her broker’s license. Phyllis was a homemaker and helped out on the Darnell Ranch with her husband, Dutch. She was a long-standing member of the Syringa Club in Sweet and also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and involved in other community organizations over the years. Mom loved family gatherings, getting friends and family together for dinners and parties. She was a great hostess and knew how to make everyone feel special. Phyllis loved traveling whether it was to Warm Lake or Stanley when her children were younger to visiting family in Longview, WA where her folks had moved to. After the death of Dutch; Phyllis married Rex Hanby where he joined Phyllis at Century 21 until they retired, got an RV and traveled throughout the United States. They also liked to vacation in Mexico and Hawaii. Phyllis enjoyed a round of golf with her husband Rex and the wonderful, old and new friendships they formed together.

 Phyllis is preceded in death by both husbands, Owen "Dutch' Darnell and Rex Hanby; two sons, Danny and Lonnie Darnell; two brothers, Larry and Jack Jones. Lucy Lui (Longtime precious pup). She is survived by her daughters and sons, Pennee (Darnell) Thomson, Luane and (David) Dean, Kirk and (Sherri); Greg and (Jonette) Darnell and stepchildren, Steve and (Angie) Hanby, Darla (Kerry) Bunnard, Lisa Hanby, Cindy and (John) Barsness. 25 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, numerous beloved nieces and nephews; her siblings, Frank and (Janet) Jones, Bob and (Lavina) Jones, and Sandy and (Don) Estill. 

 Memorial services will be held at the Potter Funeral Chapel (228 E. Main St. in Emmett, Idaho) Saturday, July 2 at 11:00 a.m., followed by procession to The Sweet Cemetery, after which there will be a luncheon at the Sweet Montour Grange Hall hosted by The Syringa Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to Sweet Syringa Hall fund, PO Box 63 Sweet, ID 83670.  The family would also like to recognize Sonny Grow at Beyond Care and Keystone Hospice.
