Phyllis Burress Obituary

   Phyllis Annette Burress, 96, of Emmett, ID, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024. She was born on August 30, 1927, in Broken Bow, NE, to Ival and Beulah Gardner. She spent her childhood in Ansley, NE, with her parents and brothers, Robert and Jack. 
   After graduating from Ansley High School in 1945, she attended Kearney State Teacher's College and finished her studies at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She was an elementary school teacher for 18 years in Ansley, Valley and Lincoln, NE. After retiring from her teaching career, she worked for the Labor Department with the State of Nebraska until retirement. She moved to Emmett, ID, to marry Paul Burress in 1992, and has called Emmett her home since. 
   Phillis loved singing and was a talented pianist. She taught piano lessons for many years and loved playing and singing for her family. Throughout her life she traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. She often shared stories of her time in England and Germany, the steam ship she took through the fjords in Norway, and her travels with family to Italy and Argentina. Phyllis was an avid gardener. From spring through late fall, she could often be found picking vegetables, picking apples and plums, and canning a variety of jams and jellies to share with her family. In Emmett she was a long-time member of the Garden Club, as well as Friends of the Library. 
   She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Burress; daughter, Susan Garner; and her brother, Robert Gardner.
   Phyllis is survived by her two sons, Mark Aman of Emmett, ID, and Jeff Aman of Poughkeepsie, NY; her brother, Jack Gardner of Green Valley, AZ; her three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
   A memorial service for Phyllis will be held at a later date.
