Penelope Novak Obituary

Our beautiful Mom, Penelope Novak, 88, went home to rejoice eternally with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
She was born in New England, North Dakota on July 26, 1935 to Ethan and Eunice Ward. Shortly after, the family moved to Avon, Idaho where they established a farm growing strawberries. She was raised in Avon with her 4 brothers, Ed, Paul, Steve and Ted, and 3 sisters, Shirley, Virginia and JoAnn.
As a young girl, she would sometimes work in the logging camps during the summer with her sisters. She enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.
Mom also enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, singing and reading books. Her favorite book to read was the Bible. She loved spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom married her first husband, Chuck Van Pelt, with whom she had four daughters. They later divorced. She married her second husband, Del Storey, in January of 1964. He died in a plane crash in October of 1975. She married Larry Novak in 1983, they divorced in 1985.
Mom is survived by her daughters: Pamela (Randy) Romans, Barbara Oltman, Linda Mattoon, and Suzanne Van Pelt; her grandchildren: Charrissa (Doug) Hast, Cara (Dan) Marts, Sarah (Tom) DeFur, Daniel Romans, Tahnner Van Pelt, Joshua (Jennifer) Moulton, and Norrah (Thomas) Fix; and her 12 great-grandchildren: Andi Hast, Danny Marts, Noah, Lucas, Grace and Caleb DeFur, Ellie Romans, Teal Long (Van Pelt), Gabe, JJ, and Lily Moulton, and Ethan Kramer. Mom is also survived by her brothers Paul and Ted Ward; her sister Shirley Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter Alyson Rose DeFur; her son-in-law Ron Oltman; her parents; her brothers Edward and Steve Ward; her sisters Virginia Corey and JoAnn Hammerly.
Our Mom was precious, and we loved her so much! We miss her presence here on earth. One day, we will all be together again where there will no longer be any sadness or goodbye.
Her memorial service will be held at a later date.

Psalm 91:1, 2 (ESV) -

1. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
