Orah Elizabeth (Burr) Nau, 88 years old, joined her husband in Heaven on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at her home in Emmett, Idaho, with her family by her side. Orah was born on January 30, 1936, in New Plymouth, Idaho, to Horace Willoughby (Willie) Burr and Sarah Elizabeth (Newdigger) Burr.
Orah moved to Emmett with her family as a young child. She grew up with her sister, Ila Jane, and brother, Horace Dewitt (De), on a farm near Central Mesa school, on the west side of the bench. During high school, she met the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob)Theodore Nau, Jr.
Bob and Orah married the day after graduation on May 30, 1954. They had six children together: infant twin girls, born in 1955; James Leroy, born in 1956; Richard Allen, born in 1958; Roberta Lynn, born in 1960; and Robert Theodore III (Ted), born in 1964.
The family uprooted from Emmett and moved to California before Ted was born. They settled in the Sacramento area to join members of Bob’s family. In the ten years they lived there, Orah worked for several companies selling items such as Beeline Fashions, Avon, and Amway products. She also enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop. After a decade, Bob and Orah decided to move back to Emmett to raise their teenage children.
Orah wanted to return to her religious beliefs and joined the United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and wrote the church bulletins. She became an admittance and billing clerk at Walter Knox Memorial Hospital in 1972. She enjoyed working at the hospital and meeting many friends along the way. She became interested in the new age of computer technology in the late 1990s and taught herself how to work on them. She helped introduce computers to the hospital to help improve working conditions. She retired from Walter Knox in 2001.
Orah enjoyed reading, even at an early age. She read thousands of books during her lifetime. She loved losing herself in a good story.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Willie and Sarah Burr; her sister, Ila Harner; her husband, Bob Nau; twin infant daughters; her son, Rick Nau; a granddaughter, Jenni Nau; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Surviving her are her children, Jim Nau, Roberta Nau (Glenn) Martin, and Ted (Tami) Nau; daughter-in-law, Barbara Nau; grandchildren James Paul (Amber) Nau, Kenny (Nicole) Beeson, Christina Beeson, and Denise Nau; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and step-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Potter Funeral Chapel. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 21st at the United Methodist Church in Emmett.
The family would like to offer a special "thank-you" to Ancora Hospice for their tender care during Mom's last days.
