On March 7, 2024, God called Nettie Marie Hall home. She passed away peacefully at the age of 94. Nettie was born to Les and Clara Buzzard on September 28, 1929, in her grandmother's house in Oakley, ID. When Nettie was 6 weeks old her mother took her by train to Emmett, ID where her father was working as a foreman on a ranch just north of Emmett. Nettie was raised in Emmett and went on to graduate from Emmett High School in 1947.
Nettie’s cousin set her up on a blind date with Lowell P. Hall. Lowell and Nettie dated, got engaged and were married on October 2, 1949. Nettie immediately took the role of Lowell’s “right-hand man.” Nettie once wrote in a journal that Lowell told her, “You can’t put these milkers on a cow!” in true Nettie fashion, she wittingly fired back with, “Well I bet I can.” She continued her journal entry by saying “I showed him I could. Big mistake. I milked cows for 16 years and through 3 pregnancies. The cows were sold when I became pregnant with number 4.” Working by Lowell’s side, Nettie learned to drive all the farm machinery and irrigate. She raised a big garden, cooked, sewed, canned, cleaned, and did whatever needed to be done, on top of raising 4 wonderful children, who she dedicated her life to raising. Lowell and Nettie were married for 61 years until Lowell passed away in 2010.
Nettie’s passion and talent for art started when she was a little girl. She became an exceptional artist and painted beautiful landscapes, flowers, and some portraits using oil paints. She was generous with her art and often donated her paintings to the church to be auctioned off in a fundraiser for the teen’s missions. She fixed up the little house on the farm and called it the “Paintin’ Place” where she sometimes gave art lessons.
Nettie loved her children dearly, but the greatest joy in her life was being with her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and baker and used those talents to spoil her grandkids by making their favorite meals and treats so they would continue to visit her. The grandkids didn't need the goodies and meals though, they loved spending time with her just as much. Nettie enjoyed making homemade donuts and having family donut parties and so did the family. She always took time to visit with the kids and wanted to know what was happening in their lives. Even though she had no interest and did not understand the rules, she traveled to watch games and support her grandkids. Nettie loved playing Dominos, Nertz, Rummy and Sequence. If anyone questioned the rules of the game she would say "MY house, MY rules.”
Nettie loved her church family and friends. She always welcomed everyone into her home. In the early years of their marriage, Nettie and Lowell took in refugees from India and Pakistan. Making friends came easy to Nettie. She was a kind, loving, Christian who always gave without expecting anything in return.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, Les and Clara Buzzard, husband, Lowell P. Hall, and grandson, Amos Hall.
She is survived by her children, Kay (Bill) Shiverick, Janet (Wayne) Gleim, Lisa (Craig) McCullough and Neil (Diana) Hall; grandchildren through Janet, Brandon (Amy) Lopez and Dustin (Christa) Lopez, grandchildren through Kay, Jason (Christy Willoughby) Shiverick and Alex (Maral Masoudinasab) Shiverick, grandchildren through Lisa, Garrett (Ava) McCullough and Shane McCullough, grandchildren through Neil, Abraham, Moses (Rachel), Miriam (Timothy) King, Titus (Becca), Susanna (Benjamin) Guse, Simeon, Naomi, Zebedee, and Nehemiah Hall as well as 15 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on March 23, 2024 at the Emmett Church of the Nazarene, 1144 N Washington Ave. Emmett, ID. Services are in the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel of Emmett.
