Merrell Blaine Dahlstrom Sr. age 100, of Sweet, Idaho, passed away on Valentine’s Day, his loving wife of 77 years, Nadene, holding his hand. He was an amazing man of many accomplishments, but he shunned the limelight.
He was born on June 15, 1923, in San Bernardino, California and saw many changes during his lifetime, from horse-drawn wagons, to telephones, airplanes, a moon landing, and computers in cars.
A dedicated husband, Merrell referred to his wife as “the icing on the cake of my life.” He was also a wonderful father, grandfather, uncle, and a loyal friend. He was a veteran of WW II and served in the Air Force Aircraft Modification Unit in England and Ireland. After the war he became a talented architect who worked in many US states, as well as in Southeast Asia.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Merrell held many callings from teacher to Bishop, and as a missionary in Raleigh, NC with his wife. His testimony was always strong, and his father’s blessings were powerful.
He will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, patience, diligence, sneaky card playing, and great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed here, but was no doubt greeted joyfully by a multitude of family and friends in Heaven.
Merrell is survived by wife, Nadene; children, Blaine Dahlstrom (Jane), Danny Dahlstrom (Halene), Cindy Wageman (Gayle), Robin Dahlstrom (Terri), Kit Dahlstrom (Nancy), and Sara Ellis (Wayne); 26 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held on February 23, 2024, at Sweet Ward LDS Chapel on 8775 Sweet-Ola Hwy at 12 pm, with a viewing at 11 am. Burial to be in the Sweet/Montour Cemetery, Sweet, Idaho.
