It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marvin Acie "Slim" Whiteley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend, on January 5, 2025. He was 82 years old.
Born and raised in Brownwood, Texas, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18. Slim participated in the Kiddie Cruize program which allowed him to sign up for a 3 year tour and retire from the service at age 21. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Janice Sue, with whom he spent 63 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised four children.
Slim was a dedicated father who made sure to never miss a game or an important event for his children. He coached many of his children’s sports teams, all while working night shifts. His presence at his children’s activities was a demonstration of unwavering love and commitment to his family.
In 1979, Slim and his family moved to Idaho after purchasing the old Crouch Merc from a classified newspaper ad. They later settled in Horseshoe Bend, home for over 40 years. Many people in the community fondly remember Slim as the friendly, early-morning clerk at Ray’s Corner, where he became a familiar face to all who stopped by.
Slim was known for his gentle spirit, humor, and friendly nature. He enjoyed an active life, which included softball, golf, bowling, and barbecuing. His love for his family was unwavering, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. Many fond memories were made on family trips to the ocean, Lake Tahoe, and the casino. Slim also had a soft spot for his son’s dogs, enjoyed good food, and was never far from his beloved peanut butter.
For the past five years, Slim bravely battled cancer, receiving compassionate care from the Boise Veterans who supported him throughout his journey.
Slim is survived by his loving wife, Janice Sue; his three sons, Marvin Ray, Stephen Francis, and Thomas Leaman (Danielle); his daughter, Vickie Lee; and his cherished grandchildren Caryn Lee Renfro, Darby Kay Wilson, and Jordan Matthew Whiteley and great-grandchild Kennedy Kay Wilson. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.
A life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and dedication, Slim leaves behind a legacy of kindness, fatherly love, and family. His memory will continue to bring warmth to the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Slim. Your journey has ended, but your spirit lives on in all of us.
