Martin Roland Nelson was born Dec.16, 1950 in Twin Falls, ID. His father was Roland H. Nelson, and his mother was Patty Dillon Nelson both from Emmett.
The family lived in many locations and lived in Yakima, WA where their father had a music store. He died there in 1966, and the family moved back to Emmett where their ancestors were from. Mart had two sisters, Marsha Nelson Young and Teri Nelson Blackburn.
Mart went to Emmett High, played football, played in a band and worked. He was quite the trickster with his friends who tormented his sisters constantly. Martin graduated in 1969 and moved to Washington DC with Jerry Newell for three months where he fell in love with his soon to be wife.
Martin and Jerry went back to Emmett and Martin joined the Air Force and served for seven years. He was in the Philippines, Malmstrom AFB. He married Kathy Woods in Emmett in 1973 and they transferred to Chicoutimi AFB in Quebec, Canada where they had many good times.
They moved to Boise in 1977 and in 1986 their daughter, Kendra (Paul) was born. Martin called her his little doll. Then they got Libby who is a joy. Kathy had many nieces and nephews they loved very much.
Martin worked at the VA hospital and Boise National Fire Center until he retired. Mart loved music and telling stories, so we know that he is sitting on the front porch of heaven waiting for us.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. with a viewing at 11:00 A.M. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, ID. Burial will be at the Emmett Cemetery.
