Mark Roger Dunbar Jr., born June 24, 1953, in Burns, Oregon, to Viola Howard and Mark Dunbar Sr., passed away on June 1, 2024. As a child, Mark quickly stole the heart of his grandmother, Vetta Armstrong, with his charming nature and quiet disposition.
Mark spent the majority of his youth in eastern Oregon before moving to Brookings, Oregon, with his mother and stepfather, Jerry Howard. There, he graduated from high school and later returned to eastern Oregon, where he met his future wife, Nita (Short) Dunbar. Mark and Nita enjoyed 30 years of marriage before her passing in 2017. Together, they had three children: Joseph Dunbar, Justin Dunbar, and Katie (Dunbar) Dukes.
Mark and Nita built a life in Central Oregon (Prineville), raising their children and engaging in hobbies like fishing and listening to country music. Mark had a long and rewarding career as a security guard. Later, they moved to the Midwest to be closer to their adult children and their young families. Following the death of his wife, Mark returned to Baker City, Oregon, in 2017 to be near his mother and siblings.
Mark is remembered for his love of watching old western movies and NFL games, a pastime that brought him much joy. He was proud to be a father, grandfather, and a Green Bay Packers fan. Mark maintained a loving and devoted relationship with his mother through his final days.
Mark is survived by his children and their families: Joseph (Becky) Dunbar, their children Annabelle, Madalyn, and Amelia of Sigel, Illinois. Katie (Jordan) Dukes, their children Brayden, Seth, Caleb, Lincoln, and Caroline of Manhattan, Kansas. He is also survived by his mother, Viola (Armstrong) Howard; siblings, Randy Dunbar and Debbie (Wright) Gregg. Mark leaves behind multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and other loved ones who will remember him fondly.
Mark was preceded in death by his son, Justin Dunbar; his wife, Nita (Short) Dunbar; his father, Mark Roger Dunbar Sr.; his stepfather, Gerald (Jerry) Howard; and his niece, Rochelle (Dunbar) Evans.
Mark's memory will be carried on by those that loved him in this life.
