Lyle Medcoff Sr., almost 94 yrs old, of Emmett, Idaho passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2026.
Lyle was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, a business owner, an outdoorsman, and truly a good man.
Lyle was born in Michigan, in September 1932 to Elmer and Freda Medcoff. He was the second of five siblings. At just 17 years old, Lyle joined the United States Air Force where he fought in the Korean war. He trained and worked as an aircraft electrician and mechanic, beginning a career that would continue for nearly a lifetime.
While stationed in North Texas, Lyle met the love of his life, Jean. What started with a car horn, eventually led to marriage in September of 1959, in Bonham, Texas. This marriage lasted 11 days shy of 67 yrs. Together, they raised four children: daughters Lidia and Lauri, followed by sons Lyle Jr. (Bud) and Paul (Ben).
After nearly 22 years of military service, in 1976, Lyle and his family moved to Idaho to make it their home. He started his own business, Black Canyon Refrigeration, servicing the whole Gem and Boise Counties.
In 2014, Lyle and Jean moved back into town of Emmett, where life began to slow down. Through all the changes over the years, one thing remained constant: Lyle’s love for his family and, above all, his one true love, Jeanie.
Lyle is survived by his wife Jean, of nearly 67 years; daughters Lidia and Lauri; sons Lyle (Bud) Jr. and Ben; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
For those who knew Lyle, his greatest legacy was not the businesses he built, the homes he wired, or the things he created with his own two hands. His greatest legacy was the family he built and the life he shared with Jeanie. He showed those around him what it meant to work hard, provide for the people you love, and keep going no matter what life puts in your path.
Lyle leaves behind more than memories. He leaves pieces of himself in the people he loved, the stories that will be told, the things he built, and the lessons he taught simply by the way he lived.
His chair may be empty, but the space he filled in our lives never will be. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
