Lois (Obermeyer) Medford Obituary

Lois Thelma (Dillon) (Obermeyer) Medford, 91, passed away peacefully November 20, 2022 in Emmett, Idaho.

Lois was born October 11, 1931, in Emmett to Elbert (Mike) and Alice Crabtree Dillon. She was the fifth of six children and had fond memories of her childhood in the Emmett valley.   Lois graduated high school from Emmett in 1949 and then moved to Boise to work for the telephone company.

Lois married Leland Obermeyer in 1952 and they spent 2 years stationed at several United States Air Force bases including Bellevue, NE; Lackland, TX; and Belleville, IL. After Leland’s service in the Air Force, they returned to their hometown of Emmett to pursue a career in the fruit and ranching business. She and Leland raised their three boys on the family orchard and spent many hours supporting them at their sporting events and extracurricular activities. They were married until Leland’s death in 1973, after which she continued to run the family’s fruit packing operation and is remembered by friends and neighbors in that role throughout those many years.

Lois married Calvin Medford and joined their families in 1979. They enjoyed farming, raising calves, camping, and fishing during their forty years of marriage until Calvin’s passing in September 2019.

Lois loved hosting family gatherings and visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each family member will fondly remember her large events, especially Christmas Eves, where there would be no room left to stand. She enjoyed annual camping trips to Sumpter, road trips to Nebraska, and could not drive past a yard sale without stopping to find more “treasures”.

Lois was a lifelong member of the Emmett Christian Church, a member of Job’s Daughters in her youth, and a 65+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Lois was proud to volunteer with the local Letha area election staff for many decades. Lois is survived by her children, Rodger Obermeyer (Toni)-Emmett, David Obermeyer (Shelly)-Emmett, and Mark Obermeyer (Maurene)-Gretna, NE, as well as her stepchildren Dan Medford-Emmett, Melanie Medford (Hannah)-Arizona, Christine Davis (Buzz)-Council, and Mike Medford-Emmett. She is also survived by her brother Dick Dillon (Judy)-Payette, sisters-in-law Marion Obermeyer and Janet Blair, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her father and mother as well as siblings Dorothy Dillon, Betty Contreras, Patty Nelson, and Bob Dillon.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Emmett Cemetery.
