Kevin Stott Obituary

Kevin Stott, age 66, passed away May 19, 2021, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Kevin was born October 8, 1954, in Madison, Wisconsin, the fourth of six children born to Gerald and Erma Stott.  He spent most of his growing up years in Tucson, Arizona, where his favorite pastimes were roaming the foothills outside of his home and playing baseball.  Kevin served a LDS mission to Roanoke, Virginia.  After his mission, he met Laraine Graf at BYU.  They were married on April 29, 1977, in the St. George, Utah temple.  He graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in animal science.  Kevin worked as a dairy nutritionist consultant and also raised Holstein bulls.

Kevin’s favorite way to spend a Saturday was riding a horse in the hills.  He loved to spend time outdoors, but he could be enticed to come indoors if BYU sports were on TV.  He also enjoyed leatherworking and made belts and leather bracelets for his family and friends.  He was a sesquipedalian and a lexicographer, which are two words you would not find in Stott’s LDS Scriptural Lexicon of Words, Terms, and Phrases, but which he undoubtedly knew.  Besides continuously adding to his scriptural dictionary, he was a wordsmith that loved to craft the perfect piece of writing.  He loved a good story, and the many books he wrote reflect that natural talent.

Kevin loved to study.  His favorite subject to study was the gospel of Jesus Christ, and his favorite textbook, the scriptures.  He memorized literally thousands of scriptures and would often quiz friends, family, and unsuspecting missionaries on where a favorite scripture could be found.  Kevin was a goal setter.  He set goals every week and calculated how well he did at achieving his goals.  He was constantly striving to improve himself and become a better person.

Kevin had an innate love for his fellowmen. He was interested in everything those around him had to say.  He made everyone who knew him feel valued and important.  Nothing made Kevin happier than being in his home surrounded by his family. He always found time to minister to the one, especially his family members.

He is survived by his wife, Laraine, his children, Kodie Davis (Chris), Riki Sloan (Levi), Clay Stott (Amber), Emily Wall, and Jace Stott (Dylan), thirteen grandchildren, his mother, Erma Stott and his siblings. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Stott, and his grandson, Gage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Emmett Stake Center (980 W.
