Kevin Holbrook Obituary

Kevin Neil Holbrook, 67, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.  Kevin was born on September 21, 1956, in Emmett, Idaho.  He was the third of four sons born to Marvin and Evelyn Holbrook, who lovingly referred to Kevin as their number 3 son.  Kevin was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather (Papa).

Kevin attended schools in Emmett and graduated from Emmett High School in 1974.  As a fourth generation Idahoan, Kevin was very proud of his deep Idaho roots.  He attended the University of Idaho for two years, and then followed the family tradition of working in the lumber industry when he began his career in the six quarter plant at the Boise Cascade Mill in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho.  When the mill closed 10 years later, Kevin worked another 30 years for Woodgrain in the six quarter plant before retiring.  Kevin was highly regarded by his Woodgrain employers for his knowledge and work ethic, resulting in him being asked to make a few international trips to Chile to assist with operations at the Woodgrain facility located there.

Kevin grew up enjoying various outdoor activities which included camping, hunting, and fishing.  He spent many years enjoying those activities alongside his dad and brothers, and he especially enjoyed salmon fishing along the Little Salmon River, archery elk hunting in Hillman Basin, and hunting geese and ducks along the Payette River.  Kevin was also an avid bowler, and he enjoyed that activity from his early childhood years into his retirement years up until the last few months.  Kevin was known for his calm demeanor throughout his life.  Because of his easy-going nature combined with his skilled bowling ability, he achieved the pinnacle that every bowler strives for when he bowled a perfect 300 game at KT’s Lanes on February 24, 2022!

Kevin spent much of his adult life as a bachelor until he met Sandy Gordon later in life at the age of 41.  Kevin and Sandy were married on July 7, 2007, and they would have celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in just a few weeks.  Kevin embraced the life of a family man after so many years as a bachelor.  Kevin thrived in his role of grandfather (Papa) to Dean and Joey, and he valued the time he spent watching their school programs, sporting events, and teaching them to enjoy the outdoors as much as he did.

Kevin and Sandy enjoyed traveling occasionally on out-of-state trips to Jackpot and Wendover, Nevada, as well as trips to visit extended family members.  Another favorite destination was the Holbrook Retreat along Boulder Creek for weekend camping trips.

Although Kevin attended the University of Idaho, he became a staunch Boise State University fan—GO BRONCOS!  In recent years, he also became a University of Wyoming Cowboys supporter—GO POKES!

Kevin is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughter, Jennifer (Cody) Weichers and children Dean and Joey Weichers; his brothers, Steve of Emmett, Dale (Chris) of Emmett, and Brian (Jennifer) of McCall; his nephew and nieces, Joe (Rachel) Holbrook, Nicole (Andrew) Gibbs, Melissa (Justin) McMillon, Keri (Michael) Welch and daughters Makayla and McKenna Welch, Samantha and daughter Everlee, Lauren, Emilee, Haylee, and Maysun; his two uncles, Ralph and Butch; his sister-in-law, Linda (Ron) Pearson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and numerous cousins.

Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Evelyn Holbrook; his grandparents, Art and Agnes Holbrook, and George and Ellen (Nan) Kesgard; a very special sister-in-law, Patti Holbrook; his uncles, Jack and Pete; his aunts, Bonnie and Billie; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Grace Gordon; and his brother-in-law, Gary Gordon.

Those of us who were blessed to know Kevin were witness to the best portion of Kevin’s life on a daily basis in his warm smile, his unwavering kindness, and his immense ability to love—his entire life is a reflection of the good man he was.  Rest in peace, Kevin, we will miss you!

The family would like to express a special thank you to the Horizon Hospice staff for the compassionate care given to Kevin.
