Jeanne Wilfong Obituary

Jeanne Ann (Bigham) Wilfong, age 67, passed away peacefully on December 8th 2021, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.  Jeanne was born in Topeka, Kansas on May 26th, 1954 to Gilbert and Dorcas Bigham.  In 1954 the family moved to Fontana California where she grew up enjoying swimming, riding her horse Ginger, traveling and being involved in activities such as Girl Scouts.  Jeanne graduated early from high school at Alta Loma High School in 1971 and attended Chaffey Junior College in California.  After graduation, the family moved to Emmett, Idaho in 1972 where Jeanne met and later married Steve Wilfong on October 19th 1973.    The couple moved to Horseshoe Bend and started a family with their two daughters.  They lived there until 1997 when they moved to Sweet, ID to the farm.

During her lifetime, Jeanne worked various jobs in education.  She started her career in the Horseshoe Bend school district in the 80’s and worked there for over 30 years.  The last six years were dedicated to the Emmett school district before she retired in 2021.  Jeanne had a passion for helping students succeed and always pushed them to do their best to achieve their dreams.  She also proved it is never too late to go back to school and received her associates degree later in life from the College of Southern Idaho.  In addition to education she also enjoyed participating in fundraising events, coaching and Girl Scouts with her daughters, granddaughters and others she touched along her path. Jeanne loved the ocean and listening to the waves crashing on the shores.  She also loved heading to the mountains and enjoying the peace and quiet of the forest.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Dorcas Bigham and her brother James Bigham.   She is survived by her husband Steve Wilfong (Sweet); children Crystal Wilfong (Sweet) and Sally Wilfong (Boise) and grandchildren Kylee Hadley and Stephnee Randolph. Jeanne is also survived by Steve's sister and brother-in-law, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the St Luke’s Boise doctors, nurses and staff for all of their support, compassion and care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be offered to your local school in honor of her memory and love of teaching others.  A celebration of life will be planned for spring 2022.
