Javier "Javi" Lopez Obituary

Javier Lopez, also known as Javi, was born to Rosa and Lucio Lopez on October 4, 1964, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He was the seventh of nine children. In September of 1969, his family immigrated to Emmett, Idaho, where he was raised.

During his time in Emmett, Javi became a rising baseball star. After high school, he was offered the opportunity to join the Cincinnati Reds as a pitcher, but he chose a different path.

In 1984, he married Tina Marvin. Together they welcomed two children, Desiree and Tash, and raised them while enjoying life through travel and many shared adventures. His family was the center of his world. He took great pride in his children, finding joy in watching Desiree pursue a career as an artist and attending her award ceremonies, and he was proud to watch Tash pursue a degree in social work.

Javi had a lifelong love of sports and was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He enjoyed golfing, cooking, music, and attending concerts with those closest to him.

He shared a special bond with his mom, whom he lovingly called “moms,” and was a beloved tío to many. Known as the life of the party, Javi brought joy wherever he went and loved making children smile, often showing up with toys and squirt guns.

Javi's grandchildren, Carmen and Oliver, held an especially cherished place in his heart. Carmen fondly remembered walks with Lito to Albertsons for Cosmic Brownies, followed by trips to McDonald’s for sundaes, then heading to Fuller Park to enjoy their treats together. Oliver will always remember the playful moments of tickling and teasing Lito, and the laughter they shared when Lito would do it right back.

Javi built a career in the automotive industry, working his way into management and taking great pride in his work. He spent many years as a parts manager at Audi-Volkswagen before he retired.

In 2017, Javi met Tonya Robbins, and together they built a life full of love and adventure. They enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, exploring, and trying new restaurants, especially for their anniversaries.

Javi was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa and Lucio Lopez; brothers, Eduardo Luis, Guillermo, Jesus, and Jose Luis and sisters, Rocio and Yolanda. He is survived by his loving partner, Tonya; his brother, Saul (Tammy) Lopez; his sister Celina (Aristeo) Alvizo; his children, Desiree and Tash; his grandchildren, Carmen and Oliver; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Javi fought a courageous battle with cancer following his diagnosis in November 2022. Surrounded by love, he passed peacefully on April 12, 2026. His family is deeply grateful for the care provided by the staff at St. Luke’s Cancer Institute.

Services will be held at the Potter Funeral Chapel with a viewing on Monday, April 20, 2026 from 6:00-8:00 PM and a funeral service on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 3:00 PM followed by a burial at the Emmett Cemetery.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you make a donation to the St. Lukes Cancer Institute as a tribute to Javier Lopez.
