James "Jim" Holsclaw II Obituary

James (Jim) Robert Holsclaw II, passed away Monday, June 22, 2020.

Jim was born on October 2, 1947 to James and Borghild Holsclaw in Helena, Montana. He grew up on the Sieben's Ranch. When Jim was a youngster his dad passed away in a drowning accident. His mother remarried a wonderful man named Cliff who raised him as his own. It was in Helena that Jim started a family having 2 boys James and Todd.

Jim joined the US Airforce and was transferred to Boise, ID in 1973. He then joined the Army where he worked at the AASF as a prop and rotor mechanic until he retired.

It was in Boise where Jim met his wife, Marilyn. They had over 30 years together before his passing.

As a kid Jim gained the nickname “Rocky” from school mates because he could throw a rock so accurately. Whether the target was a bird, squirrel, or a school mate, he was accurate. Still to this day his friends call him Rocky.

He had a love for the outdoors and the mountains. He spent many weekends with his boys when they were young and as they got older camping, fishing, hunting and gold prospecting. Many weekends were spent up at Grimes Creek dredging for gold and camping with the family. Jim was also very talented in drawing, painting and wood carving.

In his later years he planted a large garden on his property in Emmett, ID. He produced the best veggies that he would give to family and sell at the farmers market as a hobby.

His wife, boys, grandkids, family and his friends have some of the most amazing memories and stories of him.  His wife Marilyn loved how talented he was and always felt he should have pursed his gifts more in drawing, painting and wood carving. She fondly talks about his love and compassion for animals. To his sister, Deb, he was the best big brother who would put fish in mud puddles so she could "catch" a fish. It was always her job to get the worms. To his son, Todd, who spent many weekends and weeks hunting, fishing, and dredging. To his grandkid's weekends camping in the mountains, fighting over who he should do the next painting for.

As his son, James, so very eloquently put it in his words ''Rest in Peace Dad... you will be missed and not forgotten. Dad, “Rocky”, Grampa, Jim could catch a fish in a mud puddle, out-hike a mountain goat and survive the elements. He was a proud Veteran and a great person to all.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn; 2 sons, James and Todd; 2 step children, Tammy and Ricky; 5 grandchildren, Chris, Jamii, Taylor, Trey and Hannah; 3 step grandchildren, Will, Shelby and Jessica, 5 great grandchildren and his sister, Debbie.

Jim was preceded in death by his dad, James; mother, Borghild; step father, Cliff; brother, Ron and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
