James Gibson passed away on September 26, 2026 at Palouse Hills Memory Care in Moscow, Idaho.
James, known as Jim, was born November 28, 1940, in New Plymouth, Idaho, to Charles and Edna Gibson. Jim’s father died while he was just a young boy. Edna remarried in 1945 to James Thurman, bringing Jim a new brother, Leroy, and three sisters, Berneice, Dorothy, and Mary. Jim spent most of his life in Emmett, Idaho. He graduated from Emmett High School. He and his brother, Lee, enlisted in the Army in 1963. Jim was stationed in Baumholder, Germany.
In 1986, Jim met the love of his life, Ruby. They lived in Battle Mountain, Nevada, working at a gold mine. They lived there for fifteen or more years. After the mine closed, he went to work at the Idaho Department of Correction. There, he and his family enjoyed much of what the outdoors of northern Idaho offered. Jim and Ruby, with son Jamie, lived in Weippe for more than twenty-four years. His life changed completely after he was told he had Alzheimer’s.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two children, James and Mary; three stepchildren, Tom, Jamie, and Rob Wilson; one brother, Lee; and three sisters, Bernice, Dorothy, and Mary. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Edna Gibson, and his uncle and aunt, Harold and Ardie Gibson.
There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Emmett Cemetery.
