Graveside service for James “Ben” Longest 82 of Emmett, who died on Wednesday April 22 at a local hospital will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday April 28 at the Emmett Cemetery. A viewing will take place on Monday April 27 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.
Ben was born at Lowell, Arkansas on May 4, 1937 to O.C. and Anna Davidson Longest. He moved with his family to Woodlake, California in 1938. In 1955 he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Mountain Home, Idaho. He met his wife Jewell (Judy) Sharp from Emmett, and they were married on December 13, 1958. Ben was a wonderful son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, neighbor, friend and Christian. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Ben was a tremendous craftsman with wood. He leaves behind a grand legacy of what it means to be a man of virtue and character. Ben and Judy celebrated 61 years of marriage a few months ago.
Ben is survived by his wife Jewell of Emmett, 2 daughters Vicki (Jim) Wigle of Boise and Kathy (Ron) Reasoner of Vancouver , Washington, a son Jim Longest of Kuna, a brother Bud (Emaline) Longest of Illinois and six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
