John Reynolds LaFordge was called to the great hunting grounds in the sky on September 20, 2020 with his wife Sherrill, of 58 years, by his side.
John was born in Stibnite, Idaho on November 18, 1945 to Jack Lynn LaFordge and Stella Mae Reynolds LaFordge (Bott). He lived in many places over his lifetime including Stibnite, Emmett, New Plymouth and Wells, Nevada with the majority of his years being spent in Emmett. John graduated Emmett High School and attended Boise Junior College (BSU) to obtain his teaching certification.
John wore many hats literally and figuratively…he was a hat guy… hunter, fisherman, teacher for 33 years, drivers training instructor, basketball coach, Mayor of Emmett, City Council member, pawn shop owner, gunsmith, volunteer rural fire fighter, poker player, story teller extraordinaire and silly song singer for anyone who would listen. His greatest joy and most pride-filled accomplishment was the family he and Sherrill built together.
He is survived by his wife Sherrill, daughters Toni Buzzard (Daniel) and Jodi Reyes (Heraclio). He loved his grandchildren: Megan Crowther (Lee), Erik Reyes (Kelsey), Zebery Reyes (Caroline), Luke Buzzard (Sarah) and Gabriel Reyes. Shuai Li (Christine) is an international student and “adopted grandson” who also called John Grumpy: and 4 great grandchildren.
John knew everyone and everyone knew John! He will be missed immensely by his family and all who knew and were influenced by him.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, September 29th, at 11:00 am at Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. The service will be live streamed and can be watched via potterchapel.com and going to John’s obituary page. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society on his behalf.
