Gilbert Archambeau, 90, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, surrounded by love with family telling stories and comforting him in his final moments.
Gil was born on August 21, 1935, in Ohio to Alvin and Beatrice. He attended Pomona College and later ran his own pool company, Jafco, and a bed and breakfast, The Rockin’ A, in Julian, CA. Eventually retiring at the young age of 80 before moving with his wife to spend his final years near his son and youngest daughter in Idaho.
He was known for his love of the outdoors doing everything from fishing to swimming to horseback riding. He valued family above all else and will be remembered for always wanting “a little bit of everything” on his plate at every family holiday function.
He was highly respected and well-liked by everyone he encountered. His thoughtful and gentle nature was well-balanced with his love of laughter and wonderful sense of humor. To all, he was ‘the sweetest thing.’ To family, he was also Dad and Papa. What we wouldn’t give to hear him call us all ‘kiddo’ just one more time.
Gil is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his brother, Rich, his three children Randi, Marc and Melanie, his four grandchildren Danae, Blake, Austin and Walker, and his two great-grandchildren Summer and Maeve (with one more on the way).
His ashes will eventually be spread in some of his favorite places on future family trips. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Volcan Mountain Foundation in Julian.
