Gary Lynn Holmes

  Gary Lynn Holmes was born on October 30, 1956, in Emmett Idaho to the parents of Jack and Darlene (Harrington) Holmes. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on September 30, 2023.
   Gary was raised on a small farm on the bench in Emmett, Idaho where there was always hard work and many chores to be done. Growing up on a farm is where he learned a lot of his skills for landscaping, hunting, fishing, and his love for racing motorcycles. Gary won several individual trophies in motocross racing as well as 3-wheel racing. He was a very competitive racer and enjoyed the many people and friends that participated with him. Even though it was a rough sport, he always walked away with a smile on his face. 
   He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He sharpened his skills of hunting by shooting his sisters Easter dresses hanging on the clothesline outside his house. He felt as long as there were holes in those dresses, he was a pretty darn good shot.
   Gary’s favorite pastime was kicking back and watching Nascar. Every Sunday was dedicated to this sport and watching his idol, Jeff Gordon. There was no interrupting his love of this sport as his family was expected to call on commercial breaks to speak with him, which was very challenging. 
   His grandkids were his life. They all remember him as the grandpa with all the snacks. He loved taking them to lunch, having fun playing around the house cracking jokes, and fishing.
   Gary always had a smile on his face and knew how to light up the room. He had a caring heart and a giving spirit.
   Gary is proceeded in death by his parents, Jack and Darlene (Harrington) Holmes; brother, Bill Holmes; and nephew, Dwan “DJ” Hanshaw.
   He is survived by his daughters, Crystal (Gary) Grant, and Kenzee (Brent) Munster; grandchildren, Colton Rhoton, Bailee Grant, Wyatt Grant, Zoeey Hatfield, Rylee Hatfield, and Heighden Munster; sisters, Sandra (Jeff) Jorden, Connie (Steve) Cady, Janet Hanshaw; and several nieces and nephews. 
   A Viewing will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, at the Potter Funeral Chapel. 
   Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 6th, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Potter Funeral Chapel, Emmett, Idaho. Services will be livestreamed and accessible on Gary's obituary page at potterchapel.com.
