With a bucket full of loving memories and a heavy heart we announce our sweet Frances K. Sanders passed away in the early morning of February 23, 2025. Her struggle with dementia was finally over.
“Grandma Fran” was born in Clinton, Iowa to Millicent and Francis Hardy where she grew up with her sister Estelle, brother Greg and her very special cousin Lynn. She moved to Boise and later to Emmett. During this time Fran met widower Maury Sanders.
Maury and Fran were married in 1985 and had 16 wonderful years together traveling and entertaining friends and family. When she married Maury she gained children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grandma Fran was as kind, generous and as stubborn as she was tiny. She was a voracious reader finishing a novel a day, a “tough” Gin Rummy and Cribbage opponent and an avid Boise State football fan cheering them on in one of her many Orange and Blue outfits. Grandma looked forward to the tailgating parties, the dinners, preparing the motorhome for their yearly Oregon Coast clamming and crabbing adventure and the Mexico trips with their best friends “Kenny, Faye, Art and Lapriel.”
No stranger to hard work, Grandma enjoyed mowing the lawn and keeping a tidy well-stocked house full of her world class home-made cookies, breads, noodles and ice cream. According to granddaughter Helen, "you only got ice cream sundaes if you took naps!" Grandma refused to eat anything that lived in the water (yep…she hated fish) but she joyfully prepared grandson Jefferson his favorite tuna fish sandwich anyway! An avid animal lover, Grandma acquired many feline friends over the years. Her cats provided her comfort and companionship until the very end.
She had a special relationship with her granddaughter, Helen, who stayed by her side navigating her care. We are so thankful for Meadow View Memory Care, Ashley, Hospice and the staff for the excellent care Grandma received during her short stay.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maury, son-in-law Tom Thien and grandson Dennis Jones.
She is survived by Sandy (Valerie) Sanders, Heather Sanders Thien, Susan (Larry) Sanders Jenkins; Estelle Hardy (Roger) Vogler, Gregory (Jody) Hardy; nephews, Troy (Serena), Brian (Ashley), Benjamin (Miranda) and Jacob; nieces, MaKensi, Kylie and Kaitlyn; grandchildren and great grandchildren are Molly (Fred) McConkey, Eleanor and Angie; Paula (Jeff) Gellner, Riley and Nicolas; Tommy (Tricia) Thien, Sydney, Zachary, Madison, Carson; Nicole Sanders, Joshua, Gabrielle, Isabell, and Cameron; Camille (JC)Paul, Abigail, Lauren, Riley, and Sander; Anastacia Jones, Jasper and Eli; Jefferson (Heidi) Jenkins, Helen (David) Frisbee, Lydia, and Adeline.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Huck-N-Finns Sports Bistro. Come enjoy a glass of one of Grandma’s favorite wines, a good Vodka Tonic, some food and, just maybe, a game of Gin Rummy and Cribbage.
Anyone that met Grandma loved that spunk and sense of humor she so freely showed. Grandma was a class act. We love and miss you Grandma Fran. Thank you for the memories.
