Estel Moss Obituary

Estel Laverne Moss passed from this life on December 3rd, 2025, at the age of 87.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Etta Mauldin, her brothers Glen, Bon, Berl Owen, and Gary Mauldin, her sister Beverly Humbaugh, and her son Kevin Moss.  She is survived by her brother Orval Mauldin, sister Jaunita Golay, and daughters Kym Potmesil and Kari Dietz.  Now, where to begin.

Estel was born and raised in Jerome, Idaho.  In her younger years, she could really turn heads with striking beauty, often compared to the famous Patsy Cline.  She was an avid waterskier, spending countless summers at Magic Reservoir with her family.  She also enjoyed camping and motorcycle riding on her Honda Trail 90.   She shared these passions with the man she met in high school and then married, Arlen Moss, with whom she had 3 children, Kevin, Kym, and Kari.  She was a bookkeeper all her life, ultimately becoming self-employed.  She was very close to her parents and siblings.  On the weekends, she could be found garage saleing and shopping with her mom, looking for absolutely every piece of milk glass known to man, as was apparent by the vast collection she so proudly displayed to this day.  After her father passed away, she and her mom traveled the country by car with their trusted canine companion, Brandy.  They were known to sleep in the car if they couldn't find a motel that would allow their dog.  Estel and Etta also made many trips across the border to stock up on vodka for her special homemade Kahlua recipe.  Her love and devotion to her family were equally matched once she had children of her own.

She was always a supportive mom, traveling wherever necessary to watch sports tournaments, dance recitals, and other competitions.  She continued this support with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They knew they could always look in the stands and Grandma Estel would be there with her snack bag, rain or shine.  She loved hosting Christmas Eve parties and making Christmas candy, a tradition that began when she was younger with her mom.  Her collection of Angels and Santas also filled her home at Christmas time.  She played a mean game of Pinochle, skills traded later in life for her newfound passion for Bingo at the Senior Center.  Estel loved Pepsi, sweet tea, coffee, copper camels, and all things chicken and raspberry.  She was the best listener.  The kind of listener that you could tell anything to and never for one second feel judged or shamed.  Some of her favorite music was banjo music, Oak Ridge Boys, Statler Brothers, Kingston Trio, Beach Boys, Tom Jones, and all the classics from her generation.  Many of her grandkids have Grandma Estel to thank when they hear one of these songs and somehow know all the words!  Her grandkids can also remember watching hours of Sonny and Cher, Laurel and Hardy, and The Three Stooges with her.  When Estel was younger, she loved to read westerns and romance novels.  Later in life, she enjoyed crosswords and word searches.  She was a wonderful piano player, teaching her grandkids to play and appreciate the skill.  There is really just so much to write about a remarkable woman who has 87 years' worth of life to share!  Estel, you were loved more than you could possibly ever know.  You are already so missed.  We are comforted knowing that you are now with the loved ones you have lost and missed in your life, and that we will see you again one day.  Rest in peace.

A celebration of Estel's life will be held in May in Jerome, Idaho.  The details will be shared at a later date
