It is with great sorrow we share the passing of Elsie Louise Brown (Church), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Elsie galloped off into the heavens, December 17, 2024, peacefully at home in Emmett at the age of 85. She was the daughter of Harvey and Alice Church, born April 20, 1939. She was raised in the Idaho mountain area known as Drybuck, on the family-owned sawmill and ranch. Elsie spent her years roaming the mountainsides on horseback, exploring on a colt that she caught and broke named HoneyBee.
After spending several winters in the high country, the family moved to Sweet, Idaho where Elsie and her siblings could attend school. That is when she met her future husband of nearly 68 years, Stanley L. Brown. They married on December 26, 1956, and spent their honeymoon in Drybuck. Stan and Elsie purchased property in the Emmett area, building their farmstead, and raising their family for the last sixty-five years.
Elsie was always up for an adventure! She was active in the Black Canyon Riding Club, participated at Play Days, Drill Team, and was a fierce competitor in the 25/30-mile endurance races. She continued racing into her mid 60's. She also flew co-pilot on fly-ins to destinations like Alaska, Missouri, and Mexico. After selling the plane, they joined the Ramblers and continued their travels, making many friends along the way.
Elsie loved the grandkids and would always lend a helping hand when needed. The grandkids will tell you that Grandma was a wicked card player, as was her mother, and showed no mercy playing Old Maid, Crazy Eights, or Go Fish. She attended their sporting events, grandparents’ day, and Christmas programs. She often ran the kids to drivers ed. The grandkids were very fortunate to have such a warm, wonderful grandma that always made the time to be there for them, she was one in a million and, will be greatly missed.
Elsie is preceded in death by her parents; her infant, baby girl, Angela Marie; her sister, Jane; and her niece, Abby.
Elsie is survived by her husband, Stanley; children, Mark (Kathy) Brown, Sherri (Mike) Shenk, Alan (Kelly) Brown; and her siblings Ray (Sharon) Church, Kurt (Betty Jane) Church, Harvey (Myra) Church, Linda (Mel) Bromgard; her seven grandsons, Ben, Ryan, Dixon, Cory, Alex, Will, Tommy; one grand-daughter Alesha; eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Potter Funeral Chapel, in Emmett on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM with a graveside service to follow at the Emmett Cemetery.
