Edgar Clinton Obituary

Edgar Eugene Clinton (Gene or Mo) passed away at home on June 7, 2025. Gene was born in Roosevelt, Missouri on April 18, 1928 to Richard and Flora Clinton.

Gene was born at home in Roosevelt, Missouri (later called Twin Bridges). He attended school at Big Springs School until the eighth grade. After his mother’s death the family moved to Idaho in March of 1945.

Gene and his family took the train to Parma, ID where they were picked up by Johnny Brower. They went to a pool hall in Parma where he got a job working on Ed Obendorph’s farm the next day. Johnny took them to New Plymouth where he and Charity lived on the Bowson place.

Gene worked on the Obendorph farm for two months then went to work for Mr. Wheatly cultivating and topping beets. He was there until December and worked side by side with men from the German prisoner of war camp in Wilder. Gene and his father went to California to pick olives at Urgil’s in Portersville. They returned the next winter where they picked olives and plowed grapes with a mule. Gene and John, his brother, went to California the next winter. Gene and his uncle, John Grover, went to pick olives another time, but there was a strike and Gene went and drove truck.

Gene was drafted into the army in 1950 during the Korean War. Before reporting for basic training, he went to visit family in Missouri. While there Gene married Hazel Charlene Stubbs on October 24, 1950 in Baxter County Arkansas. They left for Idaho after the wedding where they stayed with family a few weeks before reporting to Fort Lewis in Washington state. After training he was sent to Germany. After serving honorably for two years, Gene returned to Missouri to get his wife and meet his son for the first time. They came to Idaho where Gene farmed. He and Hazel had four children together; Stanley Gene, Phyllis Ann, Robin Gay, and Ronald Ben (also know as Benjy or Ben).

After separating from Hazel in 1962, Gene later married Darlene Lemiuex in Elko, Nevada. They were later separated.

Gene went to work for Boise Cascade in Emmett, Idaho where he was employed at the mill as a mechanic until he retired in 1990. Gene also farmed in the New Plymouth area and at one time had the largest farm in Payette County. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved camping.

Gene was preceded in death by his parent’s, Richard and Flora Clinton; his two brothers; his son, Ronald Ben Clinton; and a grandson, David Clinton.

Gene is survived by his son, Stanley (Martha) Clinton; his daughters Phyllis (Richard) Eager and Robin Winters; grandchildren, Debbi (Robert) Reyes, Jeanne Clinton, Darin (Marry) Clinton, Dennis Clinton, Duke (Tasha) Clinton, Travis Clinton, Jessica Winters, Melissa (Anson) Cornell, Kenny Sharp, Mike (Elisha) Daughtiery; and great grandchildren, Ashley, Adam, Amy, Sophia, Grace, Olivia, Madison, Avery, and Gunnar.
