Dorothy Gratton Obituary

Dorothy Lucille Gratton passed away peacefully on September 16, 2021 at the age of 88.

Dorothy was born January 5, 1933 in Ontario, Oregon to William and Ruby Griffiths.  The family lived in Vale, Oregon before moving to Emmett, Idaho where she lived most of her long and full life.  She graduated from Emmett High School, and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, Art Gratton, and raised five children.   Dorothy always carried herself with beauty and grace.

Dorothy was an active and avid member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emmett.  Her faith was unwavering and was the rock on which she lived her life.  She had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary and prayed the Rosary every morning when she woke up without fail.  Dorothy was active in the Marian Club and many other church groups and often hosted church events in her home.

Dorothy worked for many years for the Emmett School District as teacher/aide, and before that as a dental assistant.  Dorothy also worked with Art during their long ownership of Pop’s Cigar Store in downtown Emmett.

Dorothy was active in community matters and was a member and chairman of the hospital board for Walter Knox Memorial Hospital (now Valor Health).  In 1991, Dorothy and Art, were named man and woman of the year for Gem County.

Dorothy was first and foremost a devoted wife who was married to Art for 66 years.  Art always said he was the luckiest man in the world to be married to Dorothy, and if you knew Dorothy you would whole heartedly agree with that statement.  Family was of the upmost importance in Dorothy’s life, and she was always involved, proud and very supportive of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.  A lot of other friends of the family called her “mom” as well.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Art, son, Michael and grandson, John.  She is survived by her sons, Steve (Mikki), David (Robin) and Tom (Tina); daughter, Sue (Bob) and daughter-in-law, Randi (Ben).  She also loved her grandkids, Scott (Kelly), Ben (Rhea), Sarah, Richard (Leann), Ryan (Fernanda), Jillian (Jason), Kevin, Breanne, Ashley (Brian), Chris, Jacob (Betsy), and Hannah (Tony), as well as her numerous great grandchildren.  She leaves behind lots of friends and family who will all miss her and her uniquely incredible warmth and loving nature.
