Don L. Dewey departed his journey of 91 years young February 19, 2026. He headed to greener pastures where dogs don’t get Parvo, horses fly when they run and gold glistens, ready for digging. He reunites with his wife Helen and son Steve.
Don was born July 3, 1934 in Emmett, Idaho. He owned his first fruit orchard at age 15. He met Helen in Provo, Utah and married her June 10,1953 at the Idaho Falls Temple. They raised six children while chasing adventures across the west.
After the orchards he raced Appaloosa horses, then greyhounds, eventually Dewey’s Dead Wagon and Dewey Lube. Don was a self-taught inventor and problem solver. He built gold mining equipment and was always rigging clever contraptions.
Don was constantly blending jokes and stories so well it was hard to tell which was which. He and Helen welcomed many foster children and showed compassion to many more of those in need.
Don is survived by his oldest sister, Violet Rae; children, Dixie Woods, Julie McGourty, Tracy (Denise) Dewey , Bart (Dena) Dewey, Bret (Lori) Dewey; 24 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren (soon to be 43).
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 22, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Bramwell Cemetery in Emmett, Idaho. A gathering of family and friends are invited to his former residence on Falcon Dr. in Ontario, OR on May 22, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. We will share stories and remember our Father, Grandpa, Great-grandpa and Friend.
Arrangements are under the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel.
