Derik William Thayer, age 34, passed away at his home in Emmett, Idaho on September 28, 2021 due to pneumonia. He put up a valiant fight against Covid 19. He was the eldest born March 21, 1987 to Dennis and Sharrie Thayer in Lodi, California. Five years later they gave him a sister, Wendy, whom he held dear.
Derik moved at a young age to Garden Valley, Idaho with his family where he loved to ride his dirt bike through BLM, and to the gas station by himself. He enjoyed playing football, shooting bow, and hunting with his muzzle loader with his father. His family moved to Emmett for his high school years where he met his beautiful, loving wife, Jillian. They married in 2009 and were blessed with two children, Stevi Nicole in 2011, and Nathaniel Alex in 2013, all whom he adored.
Derik was a family man who loved spending time with his wife and children. He took great pride in supporting his family. He was always helping others and always there when someone needed him. He had a giant heart, was giving, loving, and patient. An extrovert by nature he was outspoken and the life of the party. Derik enjoyed making people laugh, and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He was always excited and willing to impart his knowledge to help others better themselves. Derik loved music, cooking, fishing, and hunting. A man of many talents, if he could dream it, he could build it, because of which he excelled in fabrication and mechanics. He went to work with his father in road construction, which over time and hard work, he mastered all the trades, working his way up from shoveling to asphalt plant superintendent.
Derik was preceded in death by his uncle, Mike Burton, one of his best friends, Stevi Thurman, and his good friend and hunting partner, Dave Retzer. Derik is survived by his wife, Jillian; daughter, Stevi; son, Nathaniel; parents and sister as well as numerous family and friends.
Derik was an amazing man. His friendship, bear hugs, and love are already immensely missed. He left this world too soon leaving a giant void that only he could fill. Always with a glint of mischievousness in his brown eyes, his big smile, and laughter will forever be ringing in our hearts.
We would like our family and friends to know how much we appreciate your love, prayers, and support during this time.
A Celebration of Derik’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, Idaho. Viewing will be available both before and after services.
