David Mitchell Obituary

David Allen Mitchell of Emmett, Idaho passed away on Nov. 5, 2022 due to complications resulting from an auto accident. David was born in Boise, Idaho on April 6, 1936 to Wayne Mitchell and Jean (Marcellas) Mitchell.  He grew up as one of 10 children on an 80 Acre combined homestead whose SE corner was Amity and 5 Mile.
School was easy for David and he skipped the third grade.  His father refused to let him skip the 7th as he would have been barely 16 when he graduated from high school.  So, he was barley 17 when he did graduate from Boise High in 1953.  David graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in 1957 with a Business Degree and was the first of his family to graduate from college.  He was promptly drafted into the Army in 1958, three weeks after signing an agreement with the Navy to attend flight school.  It worked out for the best.  David got out of the Army as a Specialist in 1960.
In 1962, David married Phyllis June Condon.  They had a son, Steven in 1964 and a daughter, Karen in 1965.  David worked for almost 50 years in Management within the Banking Industry. He liked to work with wood doing home projects and cultivating roses and other flowers. With a natural ear for music and self taught ways he could make the piano sing using mostly black keys. He had many talents. He mostly enjoyed being a part of The Nazarene Church and its related ministries.  His gift was of service, and he was involved on The Emmett School Board as well as other community organizations.  He was always active. The last two years of David’s life have been considered a gift to his family and testimony to many as David nearly succumbed to cancer at that time.  It was his great faith and emboldened purpose that kept him going without chemo or any other invasive treatment, pain free and in remission when he went to his heavenly home.
David is survived by his wife of over 60 years; his son and daughter and 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; 3 brothers and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Emmett Church of the Nazarene.  A private interment will take place at the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery on Monday, November 21, 2022.  Services are in the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel of Emmett.
