David Paul Mackey passed away at his home in Emmett, ID. on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, surrounded by many loved ones, after a battle with cancer. He was born on December 26, 1965, in Silverton, Oregon, and was raised in Bend, Oregon. He graduated from McNary High School in Keizer, Oregon in 1984, where he met and married MeShell Roundtree. They had three sons and were later divorced.
David worked a short time for Domino’s Pizza in Salem, OR. before joining the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1993 from Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico and returned to Salem, OR to be closer to family and raise his boys. He began working at Siltek Mfg., then joined the IBEW Apprenticeship Program and worked for Cherry City and Code Electric. David met Suzanne Underdahl in 1999. They were married on Friday, July 13th, 2001, at the top of Cape Perpetua in Yachats, Oregon. David enjoyed playing pool with Suzanne, and sometimes even won. They made their home in Salem/Keizer until 2003 when they moved to Emmett, ID.
David started Mackey Electric and together, the family later opened the Lily Pad Laundry and the Toadstool Billiard Cafe on Hayes Street. David was actively involved in the Emmett Community. He volunteered many hours wiring the City Park so the Gem County Cherry Festival could continue to be held at the current location after he convinced Idaho Power to join him in getting the large project completed. He also spent many hours helping the Gem/Boise County Fair and Rodeo complex solve electrical problems at the fairgrounds. Through his businesses and billiard leagues, David made many loyal clients and good friends.
He enjoyed working on cars equipment with his twin boys, while teaching them productive life skills and work ethic. Earlier in his life, David enjoyed destroying cars in demolition derbies with his father and brother-in-law. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, or just spending time with friends and family. After working with Mountain West Building Supply to build and open their store, Ed Botkin and Suzanne surprised David with a guided fishing trip to King Salmon, Alaska as a reward for all his long hours selfless dedication to the job.
David, Suzanne and their family loved to travel and ride motorcycles whenever possible. In 2018 he survived a horrific ATV accident and slowly recovered with the help of family and the Boise VA Hospital, as he worked from a hospital bed.
