Dale Cowley Obituary

Dale N. Cowley, 90, of Emmett, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2025. Dale was born January 31, 1935, in San Jose, California, to Grace and Norman Cowley. He was raised in San Jose and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School before attending San Jose City College, where he studied accounting. Following college, Dale began his career with the Southern Pacific Railroad.

On October 4, 1963, Dale married Elizabeth A. Asdell in San Jose, California. With this marriage came an instant family—Dianne, Edward, Annette, and Leanne—whom Dale later adopted as his own.

In 1968, Dale and Betty moved their family to Boise, Idaho, where they formed many lifelong friendships. Dale served in the Idaho Army National Guard and spent most of his professional career working in accounting for General Electric, Ore-Ida Foods, and Home Dairies.

Dale and Betty later fulfilled a dream by opening and operating Grandma’s Homestead, a restaurant in Cascade, Idaho. During their time as owners, they made many cherished friends. The restaurant was especially loved by their children, who often enjoyed meals signing the receipt at their parents’ expense. After selling the restaurant, Dale worked as an assessor for Valley County until his retirement. Cascade remained a beloved home for many wonderful years.

Following retirement, Dale and Betty made their home in Emmett, Idaho. Dale especially enjoyed traveling and spending time with his sister, Norene, brother-in-law, David and nephew Brian. He was a member of The Gideons and attended Community Bible Church.

Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Cowley; his daughter, Leanne Cowley; his nephew, Brian Stringer; and his parents, Grace and Norman Cowley.

Dale is survived by his daughters, Dianne and Annette; his son, Edward; his sister and brother-in-law, Norene and David Stringer; his nephew, Paul (Joann) Stringer; and his grandchildren: Jeffrey (Megan) Brasley, Nicole (Cameron) Harper, Jay, Joel, and Justin Cowley, Torrie and Jordan Cowley, and Shay Cardona. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Hayden, Riley, Ryker, and Rhett.
