On the evening of April 21, 2023 in Boise, Idaho, Christina Leigh Lockie Houtz entered into eternal life. Sadly, in November 2019 Christina was diagnosed with a rare aggressive cancer. Christina was born July 15, 1967 in Seattle, Washington to Stephen Lockie and Rochelle Lockie Phelps. Christina graduated from Inglemoore High School in 1986. She married Bill Opfer and to this union was born three children, Brock, Jesse and Bryceson. They later divorced. She lived in the Seattle area until relocating to Caldwell, Idaho where she worked at various production jobs.
In 2005 she met Gary Houtz and they were married in 2010 at which time she moved to Emmett. That same year they became foster parents and over the years they fostered many children. In 2010 they fostered 3 siblings, Brahm Houtz, Cade Houtz, Sway Houtz and their baby sister, Abellah Houtz, in 2012. On adoption day in November 2012, the four siblings were adopted. In 2014 they fostered two children, Michael Houtz and Gracie Houtz, whom they would also adopt on adoption day, October 18, 2015.
Christina’s favorite responsibility was being a mom. She loved to spend time with the kids and would go to their many activities. She enjoyed loading them up and going to Seattle to visit her family on a minute’s notice. Christina loved traveling to the coast and watching movies. Shortly after adopting Michael and Gracie, Christina became a full-time homemaker yet found the time to help Gary feed cattle during the winter months. She had a great sense of humor that will forever be missed.
Christina was preceded in death by her mother, Rochelle Margaret Phelps. She is survived by her husband, Gary Houtz; her nine children, Brock Opfer, Jesse Opfer, Bryceson Opfer, Brahm Houtz, Cade Houtz, Sway Houtz, Abellah Houtz, Michael Houtz and Elizabeth Grace Houtz; her father and stepmother, Steve and Lynne Lockie; brothers, Tim Lockie (Lynnette), Todd Lockie (Mary); sisters, Tammy Nelson (Bob), Teri Kerkoff (John) and Laurel Terry and numerous nieces and nephews.
To honor Christina, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Christina’s name can be made to Scooters Youth Hunting Camp, www.scootersyouthhunting.camp or to a charity of your choice.
