Carol was born on St. Patrick's Day 1935 to Harry and Esta Vaughn of Sweet, Idaho. She was their fifth child and third daughter. She passed on October 14, 2025 at Meadow View Assisted Living with her daughters by her side.
Carol attended school at Sweet and graduated from Emmett High School. She was an excellent student, loved reading and was praised for her citizenship, desirable habits, and attitudes, as noted in her report cards.
Some of her best times were in the Emmett valley with her large family, her friends, and especially her Schneider grandparents.
She married Kenny Phippen in 1955, together, they had Sherrie and Kerrie. They were later divorced. She married Robert Hatfield in 1970. Bob and Carol resided in Boise where Carol had a successful career at Blue Cross of Idaho for 28 years. She was good at her job and made lifelong friends.
Bob and Carol retired to Emmett in 1991. She always said returning to her roots was an unexpected gift of time and togetherness with her family.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Sherrie (Brice) Mitchell and Kerrie (Mike) Cope of Monteview, Idaho. She has 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her siblings June, Marvin, Valdora, Baby Harry, Dave and Ron.
Services will be held Monday, November 3, 2025 at Potter Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. Burial at 1:00 PM at the Idaho State Veteran's cemetery. The family invites you to gather for a meal and visiting at the Gem County Senior Citizens center, following services, at 2:00 PM.
