Bruce A. Hamilton – 74, retired aerospace mechanical engineer and volunteer fireman in Colorado, Sweet Montour, and Ola, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in Sweet,
Idaho, surrounded by family.
The Funeral will be held Thursday May 14th at 4:30 PM at Calvary Chapel, located at 498 West Idaho in Emmett, ID. A graveside burial will be immediately following the service at the Sweet Cemetery, located at 6391 Sweet-Ola Highway.
Bruce was born October 9, 1951, to Lorane and William Hamilton in Gardena, California. He attended college with an early interest in marine biology before beginning his career in manufacturing and aerospace engineering at Rohr Industries in Chula Vista, California, where he worked from 1971 to 1980. Later in life, Bruce also dedicated 10 years to overseeing civilian operations at Sierra Army Depot, where he took great pride in supporting and protecting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. As part of that work, he spent six months in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, helping develop and improve armor capabilities for MRAP vehicles to better protect soldiers
from IED attacks.
In 1980, while on vacation in Flagstaff, Arizona, he met Carolyn, who would become his wife. They were later married and together gained custody of his son, Brent. Bruce and Carolyn shared a full and happy life together, living and working across five states: Texas, California, Colorado, Nevada, and ultimately Idaho, where they retired and made their home.
Outside of his professional life, Bruce found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and raising cattle, and deeply valued the time spent working the land and living close to nature. He also devoted time to his community as a volunteer firefighter in Colorado and in Sweet Montour and Ola, where he served with commitment and pride.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Hamilton; his son, Brent Hamilton; his daughter-in-law, Dawn; his granddaughter, Larissa Hamilton; his sister Deborah Brown; and his brother, Keith Hamilton. Bruce will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, sense of duty, and deep love for his family, friends and community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
