Brent Bingham Obituary

Brent Allen Bingham, of Montour, ID passed away in his home at 71 years of age on Saturday, May 7, 2022.  He was born in Emmett, Idaho to Elwood and Ethel Bingham. He was the youngest of 6 children.

Brent grew up on the Plaza Ranch, where he developed a love for the outdoors, a good work ethic and a sense of adventure. In his early years he was often accompanied by his dog, Pooch, who more than once protected and even saved his life. In high school he participated in football and wrestling and played trumpet with the high school bands. After graduating from Emmett High school in 1969 he worked in the Forest Service and spent some time in Panama living with his brother Korth’s family, while attending Canal Zone College.  From 1970-72 he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Cumorah Mission in Rochester, New York. Shortly after his return, he married Glenna Rivers on December 27, 1972 in the Logan Utah Temple.  He received his associates degree at Idaho State University.

Brent joined the Army in 1975 and was stationed with his young family in Ft. Lewis, Washington; Stuttgart, Germany; and then in Fountain, Colorado.  He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1982 and began working for the Department of Defense for the rest of his career, where he provided engineering support for combat-damaged helicopters including aircraft such as the Apache, Blackhawk, Kiowa, and Chinook. This took his family to St. Peters, Missouri; Hopkins, South Carolina; Hanau, Germany and then finally back to Boise where he supported a National Guard Unit at Gowen Army Airfield to finish his career before retiring.

During the last 10 years of his career, he was required to travel a lot to Hungary, Poland, and Belgium and was deployed for 6 months at a time to Kuwait, Kosovo, three times to Iraq, including the initial assault into Iraq during OIF I, and twice to Afghanistan.

By taking the job in Boise in 2004 to work for his last couple years, this allowed him and Glenna to realize their dream of retiring in Montour, where they have lived for the past 18 years.  His intense and demanding job, which took him to many war zones, took a heavy toll on his body and once he retired, he struggled with various health issues eventually leading to liver failure in 2011, when we almost lost him. Miraculously he was able to receive a liver donor, extending his life another 11 years. We feel these years have been a precious gift to our family allowing his grandchildren and great-grandson to be blessed to have a relationship with him, to feel his love and hear his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

He was passionate about Family History and enjoyed spending seven of these extended years serving from home as a Family Search Missionary.  He eventually became a Team Helper working as a mentor and trainer for the missionaries on his team.

He is remembered best for his love and dedication to his family, his strong faith in and testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, his passion for Family History work, and his brave service with the military.

He is preceded in death by sisters Ruth Bingham, Donna McBride, Phyllis Bingham and Beverly Elliott.

Brent is survived by his wife Glenna Bingham; children Patrick Bingham (Pamela), Allen Bingham (Priscilla), Amanda Adams (James), Russell Bingham (Micah), Angela Barentine (Kyle), Daniel Bingham (Shannon), Shane Bingham; brother Korth Bingham; 24 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson, nephews and nieces.

He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
