Betty Irene Reed (Betty) of Emmett, Idaho passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023. She was 92 years old.
Betty was born August 1, 1930, in Emmett, Idaho. She was one of four children of Carl and Durcine Crouch. She grew up in Emmett with her sisters, Beverly and Mary Lou, and brother David. Betty attended Emmett High School and graduated in 1948.
Betty married her high school sweetheart, Calvin Thomas Reed (Tom), in 1950. Together they had two sons, Kim and Joel. In addition to raising her family, Betty worked at her father’s restaurant, The President’s Cafe, in downtown Emmett. Later she worked at the Idaho Power office in Emmett until her retirement.
In their younger years, Tom and Betty loved camping with their family and enjoyed many great adventures to Idaho’s scenic lakes and rivers. Tom and Betty also enjoyed golfing with their many friends in the Emmett community.
After retirement, Tom and Betty spent time traveling and visited Hawaii, Alaska, Hong Kong, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand. They also traveled to Branson, Missouri numerous times to listen to the music of their favorite country artists. Tom and Betty celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2020.
Betty was a devoted wife, a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend. She will be greatly missed.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Kim (Jan) and Joel (Paula); sister, Beverly Ikenberry; brother, David Crouch; granddaughter, Suzy Waters (Troy); grandson Ryan Reed (Margaux); granddaughter, Anntara Longley (Jason); four great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters; and two great-great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, and her sister, Mary Lou.
The family wants to give their special thanks to the employees of Apple Valley Residence Assisted Living in Emmett, Idaho for their heart felt care and compassion during the past two years. The family also wants to express their appreciation to the many residents at Apple Valley who took their time to get to know Mom and make her feel welcome and appreciated.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. Service arrangements are in the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel, Emmett, Idaho.
