Barbara Ellen (Crump) Raichart was born at home in Bridgeport, Illinois on October 23, 1934, the ninth of eleven children. She died at the age of 88 on July 5, 2023 in Emmett, Idaho.
On January 19, 1952, Barbara married her sweetheart, Everett LeRoy “Roy” Raichart in a double wedding with her close sister, LouAnn, and Jim Butler. She and Roy moved from New Plymouth, Idaho to Weiser, Idaho, and then to Idaho Falls, Idaho where they built their home and made memories with their children before retiring and moving back to Weiser. After Roy passed away in 2006, Barbara moved to Emmett, Idaho in 2012, where she lived independently until her passing.
Barbara was industrious, maintaining her home as well as working several jobs in her lifetime: picking fruit in New Plymouth, managing the Green & White Cabins in Idaho Falls, selling clothing at Sprouse Ritz, owning and operating a laundromat, and cashiering at DC Natural Food.
She highly valued her relationships, enjoying great get-togethers with all of her siblings and extended family, where there was always an abundance of food - a lot of which she’d lovingly made herself. Although she liked cooking and sharing recipes, later in her life she was more than happy to hang up her apron and eat out at her favorite diners and taco restaurants. When she had visitors at home, she always offered coffee, diet coke, or water until taken up on the offer. When she couldn’t be with loved ones in person, she would send cards and make phone calls to stay in touch. Barbara had a knack for decorating and kept a beautiful flower garden from which she’d make bouquets. Red roses were her favorite.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, husband Roy, and daughter Teresa Gay. She is survived by her sister LouAnn Butler, brother Larry Crump, children Susan and Tom Carrier, Bob Raichart and Candy Collette, and Andrea and Paul Rickels, eleven grandchildren, and many great and great, great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Park View Cemetery in New Plymouth following her funeral at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, Idaho on July 15th at 11:00 AM. A reception will take place at the New Plymouth Senior Center from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
